Workshops and sandpit events

The Institute for Data Science and AI hosts and supports a number of workshops and sandpit events throughout the academic year. These events bring together colleagues from a range of disciplines and sectors, both within The University of Manchester and externally. 

In 2021 and 2022, we hosted a total of nine Turing-Manchester sandpit events on themes ranging from Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, to Health and Care. These sandpits brought together participants from a wide range of backgrounds to devise short projects. In total we have allocated over £450k across a number of short projects. 

Also in 2022, we hosted two Wellcome Institutional Strategic Support Fund ‘Sandpit’ events, followed by a funding call for Biomedical AI proposals.
